PiCo Design Inc.
Drafting &Engineering Supplies, Blueprint Storage, Measuring Tools, Surveying Equipment

As a Manufacturer/Distributor, PiCo Design Inc. relies on its dealers across Canada and the United States to make its products available to the public. Not all dealers carry the full line, of course, it being too large and varied, but any end-user wishing to know the location of a retailer for a particular product only has to phone, fax or e-mail our customer service professionals and we will be happy to assist you.

Since 1979, PiCo Design has relied on suppliers worldwide to provide us with high quality instruments and supplies at a reasonable price. This is possible, in part, because management's connections with many of these suppliers go back over two decades. Additionally, PiCo Design also provides several house brands that are manufactured for us like our some of our Large Format Vertical Files, Carrier Strips and the Atlas brand of products, some of which are only available from us. Also, because we do not employ sales representatives, in the belief that contact is best maintained directly between dealer and management. Up to date delivery, price and other information is instantly available and rush orders can be attended to at once.

History

When the company was founded in 1979, several big names dominated the industry: Staedtler, Faber-Castell, Koh-I-Noor, to name but a few. These companies were getting too big to provide personalized service to their dealer network and under the motto "Small is Beautiful", Robert de Krieger (until then with Faber-Castell Canada) and Phil Love (Charvoz) decided to reverse the trend. Pi Precision Importing Incorporated opened its doors on September 10, specializing in a full range of drafting instruments and accessories, plus some surveying equipment.

The name was chosen because of the association of the Greek letter pi (π) with the circle and with the above two disciplines. Over the years, as computerization started to take over, other product lines were added to make up for lost sales; in order to better reflect the scope of the company's offerings, a new logo was designed and the company became known as PiCo Design Inc. Artists' Materials, Engineering Filing Equipment, Drafting Vellum, Trimmers, Survey Books and similar lines were gradually added, always with a view to staying within the area of expertise of the established dealer network.

Mission Statement

Today, PiCo Design still sells a great many items under the PiCo Design Brand, one of the best-known of these being the Canadian made Field and Level Books which is virtually unchanged since it was introduced. Triangular scales and drafting instruments are still produced in Germany and Board Cover material in Denmark.

More recent additions in the artists' materials field come from Taiwan and Sri Lanka, but PiCo also distributes the output of such well-known companies as Safco/Planhold, Chartpak, Clearprint, Artograph and Scalex in the United States and Atlas.

It is the company's aim to provide the best from around the world, efficiently and at a fair price. As well, they pride themselves on being second to none in customer service and, because of its insistence on quality, PiCo is able to offer a limited one-year warranty on most of the products we carry.

It is the variety of its offerings that make PiCo Design the ideal 100% Canadian supplier to its loyal customer base: almost a one-stop shopping center!
